Are you ready to up your backyard game this year? Enjoying the outdoors from the comfort of home, yet feeling like you have a peaceful escape in your own little piece of paradise sounds great, doesn’t it? This can be achieved! Here is is what is trending in backyard design, maybe something will inspire you!

Sustainability - Low-maintenance gardens, drought-tolerant plants and less turf-grass have become the norm in landscape design. This type of yard allows for more time to enjoy it, easier on the wallet and much better for the environment.

Bringing the indoors outdoors - With the increased amount of time people are spending at home and thanks to new outdoor fabrics, which are made from acrylic fibres and are fade-resistant and waterproof, homeowners can create permanent living spaces outdoors with comfortable fabrics and furniture. Think work from home spaces, cozy meals outside, movie nights, along with comfort for rest.

Herb and edible gardens - Plants that you can consume! Consider your local climate and space, and plant what you can have from garden to table. It is good for the environment, wallet and tastebuds. For many, gardening is also a great form of relaxation and meditation, while enjoying the fruits of your labour.

Mood lighting - Looking to create a certain vibe and atmosphere? Lanterns, tiki lamps, lamps, candles and string lights make for a beautiful and easy ambiance.

Outdoor kitchens - Embrace the summer weather and cook dinner outdoors. BBQ’s, fireplaces, and pizza ovens are taking storm. These outdoor kitchens are ranging from full blown kitchens with everything but the microwave, to simple, yet effective cooking spaces.

Fireplaces - Create a sense of community with a fireplace to gather around. Warmth for the cooler nights while you tell stories, listen to music, eat and drink with the ease of a fire. Depending on your back yard and location, you can have an actual fire pit or an electric fire-table.

Use of vertical space - While this is great for every yard, if you have a smaller space, using the vertical space will really help with having more if that is your goal. High strung lights, vertical gardens, flowers and plants look fantastic!

Multifunctional furniture - This movement is in, tables as desks or chairs and benches as storage to name a few. Maximize your space with furniture that can be used in multiple ways.

As you can see, there is no shortage of backyard design ideas! Are you on the hunt for a new home with a great backyard as a goal to create your personal paradise? I’d be happy to help with this, just say the word!

Enjoy your yard!
